Arthropoda Phylum
The Arthropoda Phylum is one of the largest and most diverse in terms of size, shape, and environments of the species in it. An organism in the Arthropoda phylum is one that has a stiff exoskeleton commonly made of of chitin. It's body is also usually divided into 2 or 3 segments. Most Arthropods have jointed legs. The Arthropoda phylum is divided into three subphyla, Chelicerata, Crustacea, and Uniramia. Chelicerata involves horseshoe crabs and all arachnids. Crustacea includes crabs, lobsters, shrimp, etc. Uniramia includes all insects, and centipedes.
Arthropod Nervous System
Arthropods are typically characterized as having a brain and a ventral nerve chord extending throughout the body. Along the ventral nerve chord there are several ganglions, or bundle of nerve cells. There is usually one ganglion in each section of the body, controlling that sections muscle contractions and movements. The ganglia in the arthropod extend out to the far reaches of the particular section of the body |
