EARTHWORMS
Earthworms are segmented worms usually under 10 cm but some members have been known to grow serpentine spanning a massive 14 inches. Lower classifications of this worm include megascolecidae, lumbricidae, and glossoscolecidae. These worms are found in soil and feed on live and dead organisms. The earthworms digestive system goes through its entire body and its excess fertilizes the soil. Earthworms are hermaphrodites meaning they have both male and female sex organs. The earthworms nervous system contains three parts the central nervous system (CNS), peripheral nervous system and the sympathetic nervous system. The CNS includes a sub-pharyngeal ganglia, bilobed brain, and a ventral nerve cord. Within the peripheral nervous system there are eight to ten nerves from the cerebral ganglia, three pairs of nerves from the subpharyangeal ganglia, and three pairs of nerves extend from each segmental ganglia. Finally the sympathetic nervous system contains the nerve plexuses in the epidermis and alimentary canal.
