American Lobster (Homarus americanus)
Lobster Nervous System
The lobster has a segmented nervous system with a supraoeophageal ganglia that acts as its brain, in that it receives and processes information from parts of the body. This ganglia sends tasks down to the abdominal ganglia, which control the tail and several legs. When it comes to the lobsters sensory organs, they have a strong sense of sight. Because of the paneled shape of the lobsters eyes, they have a 180 degree field of vision. Since the lobster receives light by reflection rather than refraction, the lobster has a sort of x-ray vision. |
